Discussion:
The Hurricanes have NEVER beaten the Colorado Avs? I hope we don't ever meet them for the Cup.

Yes, that would be a severe test for our Hurricanes.......and don't say
it could not happen.

The avs are 15 14 2 32
Hurricanes 15 13 4 34
Sabres 23 5 2 48
Rangers 17 10 4 38
Thrashers 18 9 5 41

Sure, the Thrashers are beating us just now, but we have had their
number all year. And, I don't have to say much about the self-destruct
mode that Buffalo went through last year. The Rangers - well, they are
just the Rangers......good in the beginning of the season and then fall
off toward the end.

Our Hurricanes, however, has shown in the past that they can be slow to
start, pick up in mid-season, then a short drift off and then comin' on
strong at the end. Like we did last year (when we won the Stanley Cup)
and in 2002 (when we came close, but just a shade short).

Go Canes!

Buffalo self destructed? One less injury and the Canes don't even make
it to the finals.

True. Thrashers are top heavy on offense. Outside of Hossa, Kovalchuk,
and Kozlov, the rest aren't much of threat.

building.

They're not all that good now...only three games over 0.500. I don't
see them as a threat at all.

Like we did last year (when we won the Stanley Cup)
and in 2002 (when we came close, but just a shade short).
Not much confidence in that trend, pal...2 of 4 seasons. A stronger
argument could be made for team performance inconsistency:

Season end Games over (under) 0.500
2002 4
2003 (27)
2004 (12)
2006 22
Current (2)

Note: In the above, OTL's are losses, regardless that a point is
awarded.

Nonetheless, here's how I stack the East at this point:

Top 5 (all fairly close, the only true contenders):
Buffalo...injuries are a problem, but they've endured so far
Atlanta...too dependent on the top 3 guys, goalie inexperience
Montreal...good team speed but have a few stiffs
New Jersey...Brodeur, 'nuff said
Carolina...key offseason losses, but they're the champs

Middle 5 (most are playoff bound, but out in 1st round):
Rangers...see Thrashers
Ottawa...serious goaltending issues, flashes of turning around their
season
Toronto...looked tough out of the gate, reality sucks
Pittsburgh...future is bright, defense sucks ass
Washington...see Pittsburgh

Positioning for the draft:
Tampa Bay...top guns aren't enough to hold them
Boston...best of the last place teams
Islanders...Garth Snow is the GM...are you fucking kidding?
Florida...they wish they could play all their games on slush
Philly...old and injured...nightmare season...Forsberg will retire

The Sabres choked when it counted. They will fold in the playoffs this
year as well...if they make them. Big swoon dive coming for them
though, as is usual with Buffalo this time of year. They start to melt
just as the snow starts to up there in Buffalo.

No not at all....it is actually great to talk hockey with you. I was
surprised you were going through all that to someone who has never
posted in the Canes group before and is a supposed 'Canes Fan'. I
thought you'd see through that.

Flyers fan here

the flyers came in the NHL in 1967,the first time we ever met the
Boston Bruins we beat them in a home game.................By the close
of the 1973-74 season that 1967 victory over Boston was STILL the only
win vs them
even in a late season game in philly we led Boston 3-0 with 10 minutes
left in the game
the game ended 3-3

then came the Cup finals

game 1--Flyers 2@ Boston 3
game 2-Flyers 3 @ Boston 2OT-
game 3-Boston 2 @ Flyers 4
game 4-Boston 1 @ Flyers 4
game 5-Flyers 1 @ Boston 5
